CIRCUIT 19 The World’s End Tour

• Start: Vauchignon: 3.5 km north of Nolay by the D111e.
• Parking: Bout du Monde car park, nicely laid out and signposted, 600 m north of the village, near the D111f at the foot of the cliffs.
• Distance: about 10.5 km
• Duration: about 3 hours 30
• Height gained: 220 m
• Level: family, but be careful, especially with children, when passing along the clifftop
• Markers: directional posts and paint marks on various objects (walls, trees, ground etc).
• Restrictions: TAKE CARE during the hunting season (September till end-February), official culls and wet weather for the part of the circuit along the edge of the cliff.


"Step by step" :

Go down the tarmac road 111f towards Vauchignon.
In about 400 m, turn right (post P50) along a wide uphill path (“no motorbikes” sign).
The wide path then turns left and approaches the rock wall 2.
Ignore a trail rising to the right (JMB) (post P49) – the path then passes the foot of the cliffs.
At the junction (post P25), turn right (circuit no 20 heads down to the left towards Cormot).
The path goes up through a gap between the rocks.
At the junction (post P47), turn right 3. After 10 m, at the fork, turn left.
At the next junction, turn left again (post P48).
Ignore all paths to right and left, continuing straight ahead all the way.
Arriving at a wide rocky path, turn right 4. Ignore all side roads for approximately 1.3 km 5.
At a strip of coppice, leave the main path and turn right on a dirt road lined with hedges, descending slightly, then turn left.
Ignore a path on the right and climb uphill. The road passes near some wasteland (in the background, on the ridge, is Bel Air), then goes down the edge of the field.
At its end, turn left and walk down a small path through the coppice.
Arriving at a wider path, continue straight ahead, then turn right to cross the source of the Essor 6 (post P51). Go up opposite. Ignore a path on the right. Coming out of the woods, walk along the meadow to the right.
Turn right again and head along the meadows and then a hedge.
In about 700 m, turn right, then take the tarmac road to the right.
At the bend, turn right into a grassy path below the road.
Cross the road. Head up a rocky path opposite. Ignore a path on the right.
Just before a pine wood, turn right onto the small path (sign “no fires”) (post P24).
Continue along the well-marked trail. Ignore a perpendicular cutting.
At the junction turn right (post P53) (the GR® turns left). The path continues into the wood then comes to the edge of the cliff (attention: danger, especially in wet weather) 7 and 8.
When the path turns right, still on the cliff edge, there’s an unimpeded view over the Cosanne Valley 9.
50 m further on, the trail enters a thicket.
Vauchignon is now visible in the valley bottom. Ignore a path down to the left. The cliffs overlooking the large car park at World’s End are now visible.
Walk down through the undergrowth (slippery when wet). Turn left and continue downhill. At the junction, go left. Then ignore a path to the right and continue on down.
Arriving at the tarmac road, turn left.
In 350 m, turn right (post P52) to return to the car park.
