NOLAY

An important town in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, it is the first wine-producing village coming from the west. The road through doesn’t let you guess its magnificent historic center, where the 14th-century lava-roofed covered market, the 15th-century church and its Jacquemarts, dominate its modern square surrounded by restaurants. Its narrow streets unveil beautiful medieval houses, showcasing galleries, arts and crafts stores and boutiques. Home of the great Carnot, Nolay comes alive with exhibitions, concerts and festivals all year round.

For hiking

The Voie des vignes that links Beaune to Chalon sur Saône, via Santenay, offers an alternate route that takes you all the way to Nolay. it would be a shame not to take it. The 14 km pass through the Maranges and cross the vineyards of the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune.

On the hiking side, two routes pass through Nolay:

  • The “Trois Carnot”
  • The Saint-Antoine circuit, which passes through the Nolay Viaduct. It follows the ancient Roman road. Easy to enthrall children to swallow the 8 km.

These two itineraries offer great views over the valley.
