| The festival celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2012 with the themes of Passion, Magic and Enchantment. The festivities involve 8 operas and oratorios in concert or semi-staged versions, including not only revivals of emblematic operas and great festival successes like Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie and Purcell's The Fairy Queen; world-premiere productions with original performances of Vivaldi's opera Orlando and Pergolesi's oratorio The Seven Last Words of Christ; masterpieces like Handel's Agrippina, Lully's Phaëton, Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Histoires sacrées and Bach's St Matthew Passion (performed by a glittering array of great soloists, who also sing the chorus parts); but also three recitals performed by singers who made their debut in Beaune and since have become internationally renowned like Andreas Scholl and Max Emmanuel Cencic, as well as new talents like Korean-Canadian countertenor David DQ Lee.
We welcome back almost all of the conductors who have participated in turning Beaune into the capital of baroque opera in Europe and the whole world: William Christie, René Jacobs, Paul McCreesh, Marc Minkowski, Christophe Rousset, Ottavio Dantone, Eduardo Lopez Banzo, Federico Maria Sardelli, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Vincent Dumestre and Raphaël Pichon, a new conductor at the festival.
A CD/book kit tracing the history and highlights of the last 30 years of festival, including more than 50 opera and oratorio extracts, is also on the programme.
Finally, as a special treat, we organise an authentic baroque buffet according to recipes from the 18th century.
